Arrival at EntebbeYou will be greeted at Entebbe International airport by your safari guide and then transferred to your comfortable boutique-style guesthouse for the night. Depending on arrival time you may have time to relax around the swimming pool or take a stroll in the nearby botanical gardens before your Mediterranean style dinner is served on the terrace.
Crater Lakes of KibaleAfter an early breakfast, you will depart Entebbe and head west to Fort Portal where you’ll arrive at your lodge perched high above a crater lake in time for lunch. You will have the afternoon to enjoy the spectacular scenery from the lodge’s pool or go for a walk, gentle or tough, to the lodge's lake or venture out to the surrounding crater lakes and tea plantations.
Chimpanzee TrackingIn the early morning, you will take the short drive to Kibale forest headquarter to go on your chimp trek. Kibale is home to more habituated chimps than any other site in Africa and so the chances of coming across our closest cousins are very high. The walk generally lasts 2-3 hours plus an hour with the chimps and the terrain is fairly easy in most parts. After your chimp trek, you will head down from the crater highlands to the plains below, entering Queen Elizabeth NP and travel along with the stunning “crater explosion” drive with the Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop and the lakes and savannahs of Queen Elizabeth NP below. In the late afternoon, you will head out onto the Kazinga channel where you will find hippos and crocodiles in the water and a variety of wildlife on the banks, including buffalo, elephant and various antelope. After your boat trip, you will go to your lodge and your room overlooking the Kazinga channel.
Tree Climbing Lions of IshashaAfter an early breakfast, you’ll depart for the Kasenyi Savannah, Queen Elizabeth National Park, for an early morning game drive. The savannah offers a great safari experience, with the opportunity to see lions, Uganda kob, hyena, elephant, warthog, waterbuck and possibly even the elusive leopard all with the stunning Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop. You will return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon head deeper into the wilderness and the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth NP. En route to your spectacular riverside tented camp inside the park you’ll be on the lookout for the famed tree-climbing lions and healthy population of hyena as well as elephant, topi, hippos, and many antelopes.
Majestic Lake Mutanda
Gorilla TrackingToday’s the day! Your guide will already have booked you in so after a briefing from your ranger you head on foot to find your gorilla group. The walk can be anything from 30 mins to 4 hours but is usually in the 1-2 hour range. The going can be tough, the terrain steep, vegetation lush and the weather wet but when you finally come across the magnificent beasts it will all be worthwhile! You will spend one hour with them, observing their day to day activities at close quarters, following them through the forest. The time will fly but the memories will stay with you forever.
Lake Mburo NPA final breakfast overlooking this tranquil lake before you head east to Lake Mburo NP. It is a long but beautiful drive and you'll arrive at your lodge in the mid-afternoon. There'll be time for a short evening game drive looking out for animals you will have missed at Queen Elizabeth NP such as zebra and giraffe.
DepartureDepending on your flight time you'll have time for a short morning game drive before heading back to Entebbe via the equator for your departure.
